Meet Jayy Starr Self-Proclaimed Demi Goddess From South Central

noun: demi goddess
  1. a female being with partial or lesser divine status, such as a minor deity, the offspring of a god and a mortal, or a mortal raised to divine rank

By definition, Jayy Starr fits the description of what she titles herself to be; a Demi Goddess. Further, she’s a young woman in the entertainment industry clearly making a name for herself. And doesn’t allow the typical negative influences surrounding her affect her movement. From observing Jayy at past social events, its clear the lane shes driving in. She may be supported behind a strong team to assist her along the way, but its apparent that she knows exactly what SHE wants.

Early 2016, Jayy released a single titled “All About It” rapping about the “real” situations many individuals succumb to and should stop boasting about; what you may expect a grown adult in their late thirties perhaps, to elaborate on.

The lyrics from the 2nd verse…

“These niggas tryna act like Diddy
And they barely poppin’ in the city
I tell ’em no, no, no, no, you ain’t got it like that
We know you ain’t gettin’ money, we know you ain’t gettin’ stacks
Not dollars, ion hear what you saying kid
Swear these instagram hoes gotcha head big”

To listen to a young woman at her age blatantly reveal the false images that our youth find attractive, displays the mature mentality embedded within her. It’s rare to find an artist that can keep it all the way funky these days. So we must continue to embrace the diamond in this chaotic world, and the knowledge shes delivering for our generation and the next to come.

Who Is Jayy Starr

South Central-bred, self-proclaimed “Demi-Goddess” MC, singer, and songwriter, Jayy Starr, is a young maverick in the hip-hop world. Not content to be seen or heard as simply a “femcee,” she skillfully blends wit, swagger, and harmony with a seamless flow into songs for the modern and classic hip-hop lover.

“I pour my heart into every track I make. I’m a perfectionist. I can finish a full song, go back and listen to it, not feel it, and start all over. Every song I make is a part of my legacy. Whether it be a club joint or something conscious, it has to mean something at the end of the day,” explains Jayy Starr.
The 25-year-old has always been musically inclined, she began rapping at the young age of nine. Since then, she’s released eight bodies of work; however, it was her two full-length projects — 2014’s “D.E.M.I.” and 2015’s “South Centralized” — which solidified the fact that she is a force to be reckoned with. Taking a different route with beat selection and songwriting, and showing an even wider range of versatility, these easily became her best bodies of work to date.

As The Green Haired Girl’s buzz continues to build in the streets and on the internet, she is back in the studio completing her EP set for release first quarter 2017. After a successful debut of her highly anticipated re-introductory “South Centralized” mixtape, with support from Complex Magazine, The Source, Sway’s Universe and more, the sky’s the limit for the young Demi-Goddess. Not content with just being in the music world, Jayy has also been working on conquering Hollywood. “I wear many hats. Music is just one of the talents God has given me. Once I’m fully established, it’ll be a problem,” she says.

Jayy is also the face of the FDA’s new anti-tobacco campaign, Fresh Empire, sharing the touching story of her childhood and loss of her grandfather to tobacco use in hopes to encourage others to maintain control and live a tobacco free lifestyle. Her nationally aired commercial has gained over 100 million TV impressions. Showing regularly on networks such as BET, MTV, VH1 and FUSE. Her ads can also be heard on radio and billboards have been placed in nearly 40 regions across the nation.

With her fan base growing daily and people worldwide becoming believers of hip-hop’s young Demi-Goddess, she plans to take the world by storm with her influential, heartfelt music. Jayy Starr is setting out to become the new gold standard for female entertainers.
